Gifts by Credit Card

The University accepts AMEX, Discover, MasterCard and VISA. You can also donate on your mobile device via ApplePay or Visa Checkout. You can give in the following ways:

Online

Credit card gifts made online should be completed before midnight Dec. 31, 2023, to qualify as tax deductible contributions in 2023. To make your gift online, go to give.unc.edu. IRS guidelines require that online credit card transactions be completed by 11:59 p.m., Dec. 31, 2023 (based on the time zone in which the gift is made), in order for those gifts to count in the calendar year.

To make a gift by phone, call 919-537-3818 before 5 p.m. E.S.T., Dec. 30, 2023. Please have your credit card number, expiration date and daytime phone number ready when you call. To ensure the security of your information as well as the timely processing of your gift, please do not leave your credit card information on a voicemail. After 5 p.m., please go online to make your year-end gift at give.unc.edu.

Gifts by Check

If you mail a check, the envelope must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2023, to count as a gift for 2023. Please make your check payable to “UNC-Chapel Hill” and include a note or gift slip indicating how you want your gift designated and mail it to:

Gifts from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)

Qualifying IRA Rollover contributions (IRA Rollovers) or gifts made from your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) can be made directly from your IRA Administrator with the same receipt requirements as checks (postmarked on or by Dec. 31, 2023).

However, if you write a check from an IRA checkbook or other retirement account that you control, IRS requirements dictate these checks must be debited from your account on or before Dec. 31. To ensure checks written from an IRA checkbook clear your account in the 2023 tax year, they should be received by the Office of Gift Planning by Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023.
