Food

You don’t have to look further than the edge of campus for great eats. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill’s vibrant downtown drag, is home to many food and drink establishments ranging from North Carolina barbecue and beer to a wide mix of global flavors including Mediterranean, Latin, East Asian and Indian. If you like to cook up your own treats, grab some fresh ingredients grown right here in North Carolina from the local co-op and the weekly farmer’s market.

Music and Arts

You will find performances of Chapel Hill and neighboring Carrboro’s many bands and musicians at a multitude of venues almost any night of the week. Elevate your experience by taking in a world-class act with the Carolina Performing Arts or PlayMakers Repertory Company. UNC’s Ackland Art Museum features collections from around the world, and it’s right on campus so you can pop in for a quick tour almost any time.

Education

Working at a top-tier public research university, you will have access to some of the best minds in the world. At the University of North Carolina there are always new opportunities to learn through lectures, classes and workshops. Your children will also benefit from living in the Research Triangle, where top-notch education is strongly supported. The Chapel Hill Carrboro City School System consistently ranks in the top tier of the state in student tests, and is considered to be one of the best school systems in the nation.

Environment

While almost everything in Chapel Hill is Carolina blue (even the fire trucks), there is no doubt that this town is green. The free bus system reduces commuters, and the bicycle and pedestrian friendly streets make it easy to get around on two wheels or on foot.
