Support Students When They Need It Most

Carolina is committed to meeting the needs of our students, from scholarships and financial aid to challenges from hurricanes, pandemics and other emergencies. The Carolina Student Impact Fund was launched immediately following Hurricane Florence by donors who understood that Carolina needs flexible funding at-the-ready to help students when they need it most. The fund has continued to support students through other times of emergency, including the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, we are deploying funding to offer immediate support to undergraduate, graduate and professional students impacted by the effects of Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters or emergencies. Your gift of any size to the Carolina Student Impact Fund makes a real and lasting impact in the lives of Carolina students.

As of Oct. 21, nearly 40 students affected by Hurricane Helene have received support from the fund, with almost 30 more requests under review. Students at field sites, the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, and in western North Carolina have requested aid for lost income, temporary housing, groceries and emergency supplies. Students from western North Carolina studying in Chapel Hill are receiving assistance for food and clothing lost to flooding.

If you know of a student who may need help from the Carolina Student Impact Fund, please have them send an email to: disasterrecovery@studentaid.unc.edu
