Faculty Mentoring Award

For Carolina to fulfill its quest to become the nation's leading public university, we must recruit and retain the outstanding faculty members who will make it so. The presence of esteemed scholars helps attract the finest students to Chapel Hill—undergraduates and graduates—adding to a thriving academic climate. But the same dynamic holds true for our competitors. And because they know we boast some of the best faculty members in the country, these schools tried to hire away two-thirds of them within the past three years.

Faculty support can take many forms, but one of the most critical identified by our own faculty is the need for more recognition programs to honor the fine work being done by our scholars.

The Carolina Women's Leadership Council is addressing the need by establishing two awards, each valued at a minimum $5,000, to be given annually. One honors faculty-to-student mentoring and the other faculty-to-faculty mentoring. The initial goal to endow the awards is $225,000.

You may make a gift to the Faculty Mentoring Award (formerly known as the Carolina Women's Leadership Council Mentoring Awards) today.
