Living Legends

Carolina Living Legends

For Carolina alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago

The Carolina Living Legends was founded in 1987 by a group of “old students” from the classes of 1921-1937 because they wanted the opportunity to see former classmates on a more regular basis and to learn about the University as it exists today.  The only criteria to be a “legend” is that you have celebrated your 50th reunion or that you are retired faculty or staff from Carolina.

The biannual meetings provide a forum for the members to get together to talk about Carolina, to learn about new initiatives and research at the University and to learn about opportunities to help Carolina become the nation’s leading public university.

Clarence E. Whitefield, Class of 1944, and former director of the alumni association, serves as chair.  Clarence and an advisory group make suggestions for program speakers. Click here for a message from the chair.

The Carolina Living Legends is sponsored by the Office of University Development and is not associated with the General Alumni Association or the Old Students Club.  Meeting are usually held in April and in November each year and consist of a continental breakfast, a two-hour program with four to five speakers on various topics, lunch and an optional tour.  The cost to attend is $15 per person which partially subsidizes the cost of lunch.
