Dear Carolina Living Legends:
What? You didn't know that you are a living legend at Carolina? Well, let me tell you that you are! Each of you became a Carolina Living Legend when your class held its 50th year reunion. If you were here for that special occasion, then you already know that, but if you missed it, then you should know how this came about.
Back in the mid-1980s, a group of alumni from classes in the 1930s decided that attending the Old Students Club luncheon each commencement weekend was fine but did not provide enough opportunities for former classmates to see each other and to learn about the University as it exists today. So, they formed what we know as The Carolina Living Legends. All you have to do to be a member is to be living and for your class to have celebrated its 50th reunion.
That's it. There are no bylaws, no dues and no officers! We have a chairman and a small advisory committee to assist with program arrangements. We don't raise money (although the Office of University Development is our sponsor, and they may tell you about some of Carolina's needs).
What we do is hold one program in the fall and one in the spring. We arrange a program featuring faculty, administrators and students to help bring you up to date on Carolina. We precede the 10 a.m. program with a continental breakfast - chance to meet old friends and make new ones. We follow the program with a luncheon and optional tours of campus facilities (a small fee is charged for lunch to help defray costs).
It's a special time to see old friends and enjoy the campus that we once called home. Please join us.
Hark, the sound!
