The value of a loved one’s life cannot be measured in dollars and cents, so when Marisa McLeod’s sister, Carmencita Conry, was told by doctors in 1991 that she needed a kidney transplant, McLeod did not hesitate. She donated a kidney to her sister and literally gave her the gift of life.

Lineberger family marks cancer center's 25th anniversary

The Lineberger family, originally from Belmont, N.C., held their family reunion in Chapel Hill, N.C., May 2 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s original research building.

Bolshoi graces Memorial Hall stage

Russia’s renowned Bolshoi Ballet visited only three cities in the U.S. during an historic tour—Chapel Hill, N.C., Washington, D.C., and Berkeley, Calif. The company performed four times in Memorial Hall from June 10-14, staging both Don Quixote and Swan Lake. Carolina is the only stop where both ballets will be featured.

Kenan Music Building dedicated

Kenan Music Building
The new Kenan Music Building in UNC's College of Arts and Sciences  was dedicated April 1 in a free public ceremony. The building faces Columbia Street between Hanes and Abernethy Halls. The event began in the building’s large rehearsal hall with a fanfare composed by student musicians, played by faculty and students from the music department.
