The Corporate and Foundation Relations office is dedicated to fostering successful collaborations between the University and corporations and foundations. Located in the University’s Central Development office, we provide your company or foundation with a one-stop portal for developing meaningful partnerships with the research, teaching and public outreach at one of the country’s great public research universities. As your gateway to the university, our staff is focused on facilitating your connections across campus.
The University has a rich tradition of successful partnerships with corporations and foundations, many of which have led to breakthrough discoveries and the establishment of innovative enterprises that tackle the world’s most complex challenges. With all five major health care schools (Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, Dental and Nursing) on the same campus and with a full compliment of schools and departments dedicated to the basic sciences, humanities and arts, Carolina has established an international reputation in providing companies and foundations with true interdisciplinary research, teaching and public service.

There are many ways to start making your Carolina connections, including:
Comprehensive partnerships: supporting faculty and students
Many of the nation’s best corporations and foundations have chosen to support the University with outright monetary gifts. These include endowed and expendable scholarships, fellowships, and professorships and support for critical physical infrastructure needs. Companies and foundations find that such unrestricted core support provide them with an ongoing exposure to the University’s intellectual talent, key programs and future leaders of our state and the nation. Contact our office for more information.
Sponsoring research and special programs
Carolina consistently ranks in the top twenty or better nationwide in external funding from federal academic science and engineering obligations; in federal obligations for fellowships, traineeships and training grants; in National Institute of Sciences obligations; and in federally financed R&D expenditures in the social sciences. In 2007, federal, state, corporate, and foundation support for Carolina research and programs topped $600 million. With 78 PhD and professional degree programs, corporations and foundations, both large and small, have supported Carolina faculty and research centers in the social sciences and humanities to the physical and health sciences. The Corporate and Foundation Relations office will work closely with the University’s Office of Sponsored Research to ensure your grant relationship with Carolina is seamless, efficient and effective.
Licensing technology
Carolina encourages innovation and the continuous transfer from the University of new knowledge to real world applications. Since 1998, University faculty have filed over 500 US patents and spun off over 30 new companies. The Corporate and Foundation office works closely with the Office of Technology Development to facilitate your intellectual property relationship with the University.
Clinical trials
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recognizes the importance of clinical research for the University, its sponsors, and the general public. Advances in clinical research are critical for the future of medical science and discovery. In support of these advances, Carolina has established an Office of Clinical Trials (OCT). Since its opening in 2002 the OCT has provided professional clinical trials for many pharmaceutical, medical and device companies. The Corporate and Foundation office will be glad to set up a meeting for your company with the professionals in the OCT.
Recruiting talent
For many of our best corporate partners Carolina has become a fertile recruiting ground for finding tomorrow’s business leaders, researchers, and administrators. In 2006-2007 academic year 215 organizations held 3690 individual student interviews on campus and more than 19,745 individual job postings where placed on UNC Carolinalink website by companies from around the world.
