WUNC Radio

WUNC has a weekly audience of approximately 200,000 people in 30 North Carolina counties. On air 24 hours a day, the station offers exceptional news coverage, both from National Public Radio and its staff of local news reporters. WUNC also broadcasts entertainment programs like "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Car Talk."

Carolina's WUNC Radio is a 100,000-watt FM station operated by the University as a public service to the citizens of central North Carolina. WUNC is recognized as one of the finest public radio stations in the nation. Originally student-run, the station first went on the air in 1952. Among the first announcers were undergraduates Charles Kuralt, who went on to a long career with CBS News, and Carl Kasell, now with National Public Radio.
