School of Education
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been educating teachers and other school personnel since opening its doors to students in 1795. The study of education at UNC began officially in 1885 with the creation of the Department of Pedagogy, making education one of the three earliest professional schools founded at Carolina.
The quality of our educational programs remains high. In recent years, our school has been consistently ranked among the top schools of education in the nation as reported in U.S. News & World Report. Six of our specialties have been ranked among the country's top 25-elementary education, secondary education, administration/supervision, curriculum/instruction, social/philosophical foundations and educational psychology.
With your support, we can bring the best of what we know about learning to children everywhere. We understand that our research, teaching and service belong to the people, not in some abstract sense but concretely as people of all kinds struggle to learn and grow under challenging circumstances in their lives. As we strive together to create excellent schools for all children, we are finding that new technologies can support educational equity by making educational and cultural resources widely available. We are working to make ourselves more present than ever before as a helping hand in the lives of families and communities.
