Institute for the Environment
The Institute for the Environment, formerly the Carolina Environmental Program, promotes innovative approaches to the study of the environment and leads the University community in addressing the environmental issues of the state, the nation and the world. The Institute, established in 1998 by the UNC Board of Governors, offers an interdisciplinary program focusing on the study of the natural environment and the relationship between human beings and the environment.
The Institute's fund-raising priorities are undergraduate education, faculty support, research, outreach and capital funds.
