The Center for the Study of the American South fosters outstanding scholarship exploring the South's rich past, and supports the region's democratic and progressive future. Its programs emphasize Southern history, literature and culture as well as ongoing social, political and economic issues. The center honors the South's legacy of cultural diversity and addresses the problems and contributions of all the region's peoples including those of European, African, Native American, Hispanic and other origins.
