Carolina First

Class of 2008 Senior Campaign for Carolina

Class of 2008

The Office of University Development and Class of 2008 Officers encourage seniors to think of an area at Carolina they want to support, whether it be a School, Center or Institute, student organization or unit on campus. We hope you choose to support that area and leave your legacy where it means the most to you. Gifts made by seniors designated to any University fund will be considered participation in the 2008 Senior Campaign for Carolina.

Where Can I Give?

You can support scholarships, student organizations or a specific school or unit. You name it and there is probably a designated fund for it! Click on the link above, “Where can I give?”, to see a partial list of funds you can support. For seniors who don’t have an area in mind that they would like to support, or who want to unite with other classmates to support one cause, the Class of 2008 Senior Campaign officially endorses Carolina for Kibera (CFK).

Why Should I Give?

Perhaps in years past you have chosen to support an area of Carolina on your own or through our annual phonathon and Heelraisers Society. Perhaps your gift to the Senior Campaign will be your first. Either way, we hope you realize how valuable your gift is, no matter the size. For more information on how private gifts make a big impact at Carolina, click here or review students' Frequently Asked Questions.

All donors to the 2008 Senior Campaign for Carolina will receive a Class of 2008 decal (only available through the campaign) and will be recognized in a Class of 2008 Online Honor Roll of donors. Those who contribute at least $20.08 will also receive a Tar Heel lapel pin to wear at graduation and will be specially noted in all honor rolls.

The class will also be recognized with a stone paver at the Bell Tower. See the Class of 2007's stone here.

Campaign Goals

The Class of 2008 set a goal to exceed the Class of 2007's record breaking 30.5% participation with average gifts of $20.08. Gifts must be received by graduation in order to count as campaign participation.

Challenge Gifts

If the Class of 2008 meets its participation goal, an anonymous donor will give $25,000 to Carolina for Kibera (CFK) in honor of the class.  Additionally, David and Becky Pardue have committed to giving CFK $1 for every $1 seniors donate to CFK, up to $25,000.  David is a UNC alumnus, Class of 1969, and a former Trustee of the University.  Both he and Becky are long-time Carolina supporters. In gratitude, CFK will name a wing of its Tabitha Medical Clinic in honor of the members of the Class of 2008. The recent violence and unrest in Kenya has reinforced how crucial CFK’s mission is and these challenge gifts are fabulous opportunities to support Carolina’s priorities of globalization and engagement.

How Do I Give?

It's easy to make your gift now from your UNC One Card expense or by Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Participate today with three simple steps:

1. Decide what program in academics, student-life or athletics you want to support. See “Where can I give?” above for some ideas.

2. Decide on a gift amount that's right for you. Remember, you have the option to do automatic monthly or quarterly installments. A giving plan can help you increase the amount you give back to Carolina over an academic year. With a gift of $250 or more in an academic year (July 1 -
June 30) you will be granted membership in our 1793 Society. Contact Shea Grisham to set up an easy giving plan.

3. Decide how you want to give: - with a UNC One Card - visit http://annualfund.unc.edu/onecard - with a Visa, American Express or MasterCard, check or with a UNC employee payroll deduction – visit http://annualfund.unc.edu/gift and follow the directions below.

Step 1: Select your method of giving (credit card, check, bank draft, UNC employee payroll deduction, stock or pledge).

Step 2: Determine the area(s) you wish to support. Under “Select a University Designation,” there are general categories for different areas on campus. There is not a specific category for the Senior Campaign. Once you have selected a University Designation, “Select a University Fund” within that category.

*If you wish to give to Carolina for Kibera, select “Global Education Center" as the “University Designation” and select “Carolina for Kibera (5486)" as the “University Fund”.

*You can give to multiple areas, up to ten in one transaction, by completing multiple “Gift Designation” sections.

*Is the area you wish to support not listed? If you know this area accepts charitable donations, select “other” in both drop-down boxes and specify your request in the “Other Instructions” box. Please note that not every area on campus has a fund to receive donations. Contact Shea Grisham at (919) 962-2012 or Shea_Grisham@unc.edu if you have any questions about the area you wish to support or to be sure that it has a fund to accept donations.

Complete Step 2 by entering your personal and contact information. Be sure to enter your 9-digit UNC PID under “personal information” so that we can credit your record with your gift and count your participation in the Senior Campaign.

Continue through “Step 3 – Review” and “Step 4 – Confirmation” to complete the required fields of information and enter your method of payment. Contact Shea Grisham for more information at (919) 962-2012, or Shea_Grisham@unc.edu.

Thank you for your participation!
