Annual Fund
Become a Bell Ringer
Private gifts created the Chapel Hill campus in 1792 and largely sustained it for its first hundred years. Although large appropriations began after World War I, philanthropy continues to be important to the University. In the last fiscal year, state appropriations comprised approximately 27 percent of the University's revenue and tuition and fees accounted for another 11 percent. Private support contributed 19% of the revenue to significantly help Carolina achieve the highest levels in teaching, research and public service.
Membership in the Carolina Bell Ringers requires donors to have made gifts in the most recent two consecutive academic years (2007-08 and 2008-09). We welcome anyone to join, both alumni and other friends of Carolina. Your gift may be designated to the Chancellor's Unrestricted University Fund or to any school, academic program or department of the University.
To continue your Bell Ringer membership in academic year 2009-10, simply give in any amount prior to June 30, 2010. There is no minimum gift to continue your membership.
At the end of each academic year, all Bell Ringers will receive a car decal, an acknowledgement from the Chancellor of their important role in Carolina's annual giving efforts, and the satisfaction of helping Carolina maintain its status as a premier public university.
